Happy Birthday, Mr. President,
I hope for nothing but success for you in the years to come.
Coming out of the budget negotiations, the debt ceiling debate, and now with the fight for funding the FAA looming, it is time for you to dig your heels in and make a stand, and tell America that it is the Republicans — NOT Congress — that is standing in the way of getting this economy to recover. “Call them out,” as you have said in the past. Get angry, be aggressive and make demands… Maybe as many as 40% of Americans will not vote for you under any circumstances, so where is the risk?
Since you took office, you have tried to work with Republicans, but they will NOT work
with you! Stop trying to ‘go along to get along’! Help Americans understand what you have actually accomplished so far. List, with dates, the many job creating bills that left the pre-2010 election Democratic-controlled House, only to die of a Republican filibuster in the Senate. Then list the job-creating bills passed by the house since January 2011. (Short list, that.) You and the rest of the Democratic caucus should convey this repeatedly to America, at every interview opportunity.
Call on all Americans to help force the Republicans to accept job-creating programs now, and put the blame where it belongs if (and when) they don’t.
The time for strong action and strong language is now! Please, Mr. President, for the good of the country, and your re-election, take the gloves off, forget about the artful act of compromise, and do not mince words. Lay the blame and fault where it belongs — at the feet of the Republicans — for the many Americans out of work.
Invoke Herbert Hoover whenever it’s appropriate. Republicans have set a goal, in so many words, to defeat you in 2012, even ahead of the good of the country. They can and will damage America further, rather than have you or any Democrat elected president.
I stand with you, Sir !
