Mike Honig is originally from Brooklyn, New York. He moved to Houston in September of 1977 and has been there ever since. Mike's interests are politics, history, science, science fiction (and reading generally), technology, and almost anything else. Mike has knowledge and experience in many diverse fields, sometimes from having worked in them, and sometimes from extensive reading or discussion about them. Mike's general knowledge makes him a favorite partner in Trivial Pursuit. He likes to say that about most things, he knows enough to be dangerous. Humility is a work-in-progress.

Some people apparently appreciated McCarthy’s work, and I’m told that his style was deliberately chosen by the producers, but I always felt that it made the series seem cheap and cheesy. What I enjoyed of the series was in spite of his work, or especially among the episodes he didn’t score. (The memorable Borg theme, for example, is not McCarthy’s but is the work of Ron Jones.)

I’m watching “Above and Beyond: NASA’s Journey to Tomorrow” & it occurs to me that when we hear about Earth’s climate warming ‘only’ 1-2 degrees, that’s Centigrade. Americans don’t know centigrade.
Two degrees C is almost 4 degrees F. Any American knows how uncomfortable that is on a thermostat. Maybe we should be discussing global warming in America on terms Americans understand and not be metrically elitist about it.
It’s like we always think about Mars’ gravity being 1/3 Earth’s, and that sounds cool. Then someone pointed out that on the way back, Earth’s gravity is THREE TIMES Mars’! That sounds awful!
