Is This America’s Most Famous Unknown Soldier Of World War 2?
[First posted on November 12, 2013 by ThinkwingRadio]I know you’ve all seen it, this 2 second clip of black and white film taken on D-day; June 6th, 1944. You’ve probably watched it so many times that it’s just background to the bigger story of the invasion, and that’s certainly how this quick piece of film is used; 2 seconds of film showing G.I.s storming the beach. I’m not even sure which beach.

“We’ve got to get back to the focus of what’s going on right now, which is really a moment in American history where we’ve had an unprecedented attack on our elections, and how are we as a nation going to respond? … [W]e see this from the French elections… they intend to continue to [COME AT] this country. Wetlands are advantageous to the environment as they help maintain our water quality, recharge aquifers, reduce flood damage from storms, sustain many habitats for a variety plants and animals such as migratory birds, and are vital to the economy as they are popular tourist attractions as well as part of the fishing industry.
Unfortunately, wetland acreage has been decreasing significantly because of human development.
Texas has lost over half of its wetlands since European settlement of the area equivalent to seven million acres.
Therefore, the group would like to raise awareness to protect this habitat.
They participated in Marsh Mania last month through the Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) and helped plant over 6000 stalks of smooth cordgrass in Dickinson, Texas. The GBF has preserved, protected, and restored over 16,500 acres of wetland habitat since its founding in 1987.
More stats:
The Galveston Bay watershed has lost more than 30,000 acres of freshwater and saltwater wetlands between 1953 and 1989.
An additional 365 acres of saltwater wetlands and 13,538 acres of freshwater wetlands have been lost to development in a 15 year period (1996-2010) which totals 13% of all wetlands.
Marsh Mania began in 1999 and has involved more than 7,700 community volunteers who have restored over 207 acres of vital salt marsh habitat at 89 sites around Galveston Bay.
Smooth cordgrasses are planted to prevent the weathering and erosion of sediment along the shores of wetlands and create needed habitats for organisms such as migratory birds.

“Let me warn you and let me warn the nation against the smooth evasion which says, ‘Of course we believe all these things; we believe in social security; we believe in work for the unemployed; we believe in saving homes. Cross our hearts and hope to die, we believe in all these things; but we do not like the way the present Administration is doing them. Just turn them over to us. We will do all of them—we will do more of them, we will do them better; and, most important of all, the doing of them will not cost anybody anything.”
“But, my friends, these evaders are banking too heavily on the shortness of our memories. No one will forget that they had their golden opportunity—twelve long years of it.
“Remember, too, that the first essential of doing a job well is to want to see the job done. Make no mistake about this: The Republican leadership today is not against the way we have done the job. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased. One of the first things Jesse Bright did after being pulled over by police on a recent Sunday afternoon was turn on his phone and begin filming.
Bright was driving for Uber to make some extra cash, but he works full-time as criminal defense attorney in North Carolina. As a lawyer, he said, he believes strongly that when people record their interactions with police, it helps reduce confusion if their cases end up in court.
As he aimed his phone in the direction of officers and recorded, Bright was surprised to hear Wilmington police Sgt. Kenneth Becker tell him that there was a new state law that prohibited him from recording police.

FEBRUARY 22, 2017 – I have been following this story in Daily Kos since early February. I’ve talked about twice on each of my last two shows.
Despite it’s potential Constitutional importance, it seems to be flying under the proverbial radar in every other major media outlet to the point of invisibility, and yet it is of potentially — and literally — of world-shaking importance.
There is a Writ of Mandamus before the Supreme Court.
Until today, it was ‘merely’ a request to be considered before the Court for oral arguments. A decision was due by February 21, 2017. Today, it has been decided that the Writ will be distributed among all the Justices for consideration for open oral arguments before the full SCOTUS.
Here is how the request for a Writ is being put before the court, as explained in the original article:
“While the world is paying attention to theatrical battles over President Trump’s executive orders and cabinet nominees, a largely unnoticed and potentially landmark case sits before the Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States. A petition for a writ of mandamus seeking to nullify the results of the 2016 U.S. Presidential electionsits on the SCOTUS docket.
The article goes on the explain the significance of the Writ request:
“A petition for a writ of mandamus is a filing imploring a Court to take mandatory action in the nature of public duty. The writ – filed Jan 18, 2017 by Diane Blumstein, Donna Soodalter-Toman, and Nancy Goodman – has been assigned docket number 16-907.”
The grounds for the writ are as follows:
“The main argument for the writ is that, per Article IV § 4 of the U.S. Constitution, it is the job of the federal government to keep U.S. territory safe from foreign invasion. The Constitution stipulates, “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion.” The petition cites evidence of such an invasion, namely the Russian hacking, and asks that the entire 2016 election be nullified, all the way back to the primaries, on the grounds that cyber-territory in the U.S. was invaded with the intention of altering the results of our Presidential election. The petitioners seek an entirely new election.
Now comes the earth-shaking, Constitutional Crisis-inducing demand of the Writ:
“Per Title 28 of the U.S. Code § 1251, SCOTUS has “original jurisdiction” over cases like this due to the involvement of a foreign state. There is no remedy for the foreign cyber-invasion, they argue, other than complete nullification.”
It will be at least another month before we get the next chapter in this astonishing chapter of US history.

SIGNOFF QUOTE[s]:
“Unhappy events abroad have retaught us two simple truths about the liberty of a democratic people. The first truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic State itself. That, in its essence, is fascism — ownership of government by an individual, by a group or by any other controlling private power. The second truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if its business system does not provide employment and produce and distribute goods in such a way as to sustain an acceptable standard of living. Both lessons hit home. Among us today a concentration of private power without equal in history is growing.” — Franklin D. Roosevelt, “Simple Truths” message to Congress (April 29, 1938) Click here for full textClick here for contemporary analysis of the speech in TIME Magazine
