GUEST(S): David Brown (aka, DB Grady): David Brown is the co-author of “Deep State: Inside the Government Secrecy Industry” and a correspondent for The Atlantic as well as a skilled novelist. He is a veteran of Afghanistan, and former paratrooper with the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.

TOPIC(s): The demonization of Bowe Bergdahl, The VA Controversy

Prisoners of War:

The debate over Bergdahl
- Deserter?
- Traitor?
- Complicit in deaths of comrades searching for him?
Do we judge POWs before we bring them home or after?
- Do we judge POWs as a CONDITION of bringing them home?

The implications for Republicans vs. Democrats:
McCain for the trade before he was against it?
If you’re military, should you vote Democrat if you’re pro-military?
- GOP is pro-gun. If you’re in the military, that’s not an issue.
- GOP voted against money for diplomatic security overseas.
  - Indirect responsibility for Benghazi?
- GOP voted against money for VA.
  - Complain about a problem they made it financially impossible to solve?
  - “Do more with less!”
- GOP pro-war but anti-veteran?
  - GOP: $$$ more important than blood?
  - Rumsfeld took 2 years to reinforce Humvees with extra armor.

TOPIC(s): The Johnson’s multi-decade work in the areas of community action, community development, strengthening families, and more.

Eric & Elaine Johnson are both Certified Faith-Based Counselors specializing in marriage and family relationships. The Johnson’s are a husband and wife team who work side by side in their vision of building and restoring relationships. Although, their ministry of counsel began while mentoring young girls and boys in public schools and local churches, Eric and Elaine soon found themselves acting as relationship mediators with couples they encountered. The Johnson’s noticed many families simply didn’t know how to relate to each other in a healthy manner. The Johnson’s are responding to this incredible need by giving individuals the tools to have successful, healthy relationships through innovative, interactive educational workshops.

GUEST(S): Jennifer Hamad, Jackie Kaase, and Savanah Taylor are 5th graders at Mark Twain Elementary School in Houston. Their school is part of the International Baccalaureate (or IB) Program. In their 5th grade, they’re supposed to select a topic of concern that is important to them, do research on it, and come up with an action plan.

This Saturday (May 17th), my guests will be participating in a volunteer program called “Marsh Mania” at Pine Gully in Seabrook, sponsored by the Galveston Bay Foundation.
